The landscapes along the Bavarian Danube are magnificent, as is the Danube Cycle Path. The impressive natural landscape of the Danube Gorge and the exciting cities of Ingolstadt, Regensburg and Passau alternate to the rhythm of your bike pedals. Stop in one of the countless rustic beer gardens for a snack with pretzels, Radi (Bavarian radish) and Obatzda (cheese dip). This cycle tour along the bavarian danube is easy to cycle, but you should definitely take your time! You can book extra nights in all locations.
Day 1 Arrival in Donauwörth
Explore the picturesque, old imperial city with the Liebfrauenmünster Cathedral and the Käthe Kruse doll museum or while away the hours in the pretty district of Wörnitzstein.
Day 2 Donauwörth - Ingolstadt, approx. 65 km / 41 mi
You’ll cycle along the Danube through the baroque town of Neuburg and to the Bavarian fortress town, known for being the location of the Audi headquarters and the origin of the ‘Reinheitsgebot’, the Bavarian beer purity laws.
Day 3 Ingolstadt - Abensberg, 50-60 km / 25-37 mi + boat
Today you will travel to Bad Gögging. From here it is only a few kilometers to Abensberg. The small town has a lovely renovated historic old town. You should not miss the beer garden of the Hundertwasser brewery Kuchlbauer!
Day 4 Abensberg - Regensburg, 55 km / 34 mi + boat
We cycle along the Abens and the Danube to Weltenburg Monastery, where a very special natural spectacle awaits you: the Danube breakthrough. Here the Danube has dug its way through a massive Jura rock. Strengthen yourself in the beer garden of the monastery, before you go by boat through the Danube breakthrough to Kelheim and from there to Regensburg.
Day 5 Regensburg - Straubing, approx. 55 km / 34 mi
Nature and culture alternate: the Walhalla memorial, the Pfatter Au floodplain landscape, the renaissance castle in Wörth and the Danube loop in Oberau. Located in Bavaria's granary, the Gäuboden, Straubing has been continuously populated since Neolithic times.
Day 6 Straubing - Deggendorf, approx. 40 km / 25 mi
You’ll cycle through the small town of Bogen with a pregnant Madonna statue from the 11th century to the university town of Deggendorf. Once a proud shipyard town, paddle steamers were built here in the 19th century.
Day 7 Deggendorf - Passau, approx. 55 km / 34 mi
In Vilshofen a visit of the Africa Museum at the Schweiklberg Monastery is worthwhile, before you cycle to the 3-river city of Passau. Enjoy the view from the Veste Oberhaus or bring the day to a close in one of the beer gardens.
